Zignut VS Dr. Horrible

Having just enjoyed the magic that is "Dr. Horrible's Sing along Blog" from Joss Whedon. I was left with three first impressions. "Three first impressions and not one?" you say. Well... yes they all popped out of my subconscious like conjoined triplets fighting for supremacy and I was forced to order them for my own sanity... here goes:

1. NPH (That's Sir Neil Patrick Harris to you) is the greatest talent this generation will ever see.

1. I really hope Joss Whedon is looking for a web spokesfly.

1. And last, but still first, the similarities between Enerkid's villain Prof. Zignut and Dr. Horrible are kind of cool:
(warning: minor plot elements revealed not real spoilers though)

Professor Zignut:
Scene stealing villain who wears welding goggles, uses a ray gun, and who goes off on tangents.
Fires said ray at a cheesy press event held in front of a curtain
Evil plan involves a stolen van on which the hero lands in a rescue attempt.
Burdened by ineffective monster henchmen
References a League of Woe

Dr. Horrible:
Scene stealing villain who wears welding goggles, uses a ray gun, and who blogs off on tangents.
Fires said ray at a cheesy press event held in front of a curtain
Evil plan involves a stolen van on which the hero lands in a rescue attempt.
Villain burdened by ineffective sidekick Moist.
References an Evil League of Evil

Now conspiracy freaks might assume some evil plot is behind this, but rest assured friends: coincidences abound in this universe. And while Enerkid was conceived and shot well before the WGA strike that spawned Dr. Horrible, they can both be first. As can this Dr. Steel chap, whom I had never heard of, but who's fans are suggesting Whedon ripped off. I'm guessing it's just another first... three firsts... it happens...

Like my impressions. See how I brought that back around... dang I'm good.

Now there's an ALLIANCE?

I have just received word that there is now an Enerkid Alliance. Not sure if this is an alliance of Enerkids or an alliance of people who support Enerkid or some evil plot by the League of Woe, but I'm interested. So can I join this thing or what?!

Freaky

Okay this is weird... I just realized that the food review I copy and pasted to pad out my last post was about a place called Bar Johnny.

The lead actress in Enerkid VS the Monster Ray is Barb Johnny!

Complete coincidence since my search criteria for google on that one was: cooking blog.

But there's gotta be something to that right?! Perhaps my insect mind has some hidden telekiwebthing that is guiding the internet. Shaping it to my thoughts, bending it to my will, yes, yes, it will all be mine hahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-ahem- sorry, um...

Ummm...

Okay so apparently the guys at Ticking Brain actually want me to keep up with this blog thing. I was under the impression that I could just slack off and they wouldn't notice so the fact that they do both fascinates and annoys me.

I have developed several key systems of procrastination that keep me in my "happy place" and working may put a damper on that.

So I have decided to copy and paste someone else's blog entry here and throw in a mention of Ticking Brain's latest Enerkid DVD. Let's see if they ever read this far... I guess a cooking blog would probably be a safe family-friendly one: Here's cooking with Amy from http://cookingwithamy.blogspot.com/

Bay Area Breakfast Pizza

Thursday, April 03, 2008
Leftover pizza is what I think of as a default breakfast, the kind of thing you eat when that's what's in the fridge. Freshly made breakfast pizza, on the other hand, is nothing short of divine.

AND ENERKID IS AMAZING!

Two breakfast pizzas I tried recently were that wonderful combination of both crunchy and chewy, perfect for nibbling on, while chatting away. I guess that means they might be better for weekend brunch than a weekday breakfast-on-the run. I haven't come up with my own version yet, but I thought I'd share the ones I've tried, in the meantime. I'm happy to say I found good ones on both sides of the bay.

The first breakfast pizza I had was at Bar Johnny. Bar Johnny is a bit of a dream come true for me. It's right around the corner from my house, serves a variety of delicious and reasonably priced small plates at brunch on the weekend, and for dinner. Still hungry after a night at the ballet? The snackable menu is available until 1 in the morning. Oh Bar Johnny, I think I love you!
Bar Johnny Pizza
The pizza at Bar Johnny is topped with smoked salmon, red onion, dill and creme fraiche. The toppings are cold, so they don't get "cooked" but the crust is hot. It's the perfect portion for one person. It's a bit like a bagel, cream cheese and lox, but easier to eat and linger over. BUT NOT AS COOL AS ENERKID.

On a good day, Oliveto Cafe is a sunny little breakfast nook, I want to return to time and time again. It's warm, casual and comfortable. You order at the bar, find a seat, and the food comes to you, eventually. When a colleague suggested sharing the breakfast pizza I figured, why not? It turns out it's so big we actually had trouble finishing it. You can get it with various toppings but pancetta and a couple of fried eggs are de rigueur as far as I'm concerned. MMM THAT'S GOOD EATS MAKES ME WANT TO WATCH A PERSONALIZED DVD LIKE ENERKID VS THE MONSTER RAY.

Thanks Amy.

Unbelievable

They've changed the sample photo for the enerkid site but they still didn't use a picture of me!

I was on cereal boxes for crying out loud! Sure they were only sold out of vending machines in Japan, but it was the best unlicensed likeness attached to the entire Happy Critter Crunchies line. I'll scan in the box sometime.

Anyway email the guys at Ticking Brain and let 'em know that their public demands a Briny Picklestem version of Enerkid.

Enerkid VS The Monster Ray

Ticking Brain Entertainment has just released the first live-action superhero DVD starring you!

Say wha?? Okay here's the deal:

You upload a picture of yourself, your kid, your dog, whatever and they use some sort of electronic, motion-tracking voodoo to stick your head on the body of Enerkid (a glowing superhero who can fly, fire energy beams from the hands, and generally save the world as we know it ).

Check out the trailer and see for yourself.

Of course your guess is as good as mine why they didn't use the celebrated face of yours truly to demo their product but I'll see if I can't remedy the situation and get a Briny version posted here.

Welcome to the new Ticking Brain Update Source

As the unofficial mascot/spokesfly for Ticking Brain Entertainment, I welcome you to this fancy smancy News & Notes update source for all things Ticking Brain Ent.

Okay, admitedly a blog hardly qualifies as "fancy smancy" but I was told to include that phrase along with the terms hip, sweet, cool, wildly entertaining, fresh, and web 3.0 (glad that's out of the way)

First a little about me: Briny Picklestem. I use to be huge. During the dotcom explosion web mascots like myself were in big demand and living large off superbowl ads and venture capital cheques.

Remember myflytrader.com? That was me baby! I was a media king. Kids used to dress up like me on Halloween and shout "Trick or Trade" for crying out loud. Sure they were paid to do it, but it happened! Then the bubble burst and --poof-- it was over. They were all gone. Bankrupt and... well it hurts even to think about those dark days now.

Anyway point being my fees had dropped somewhat and, after 5 lost years in the wilderness (more on that later), this guy named Kit called me up and offered me a gig writing his production company's news & notes page. So here I am, underpaid but generally appreciated and all about hyping whatever Ticking Brain Entertainment has up its sleeve next. Um... I guess I'll start that next post.
